Amarillo, TX: Bike MS - Wild West Ride
Completed July 24-25, 2010. This ride has something for everyone. Day 1 is 100 miles from Amarillo, TX to Canadian, TX. The first 80 miles is flat and fast, then 20 miles of rolling hills into Canadian, TX. Day 2 is 50 miles in the rolling hills around Canadian, TX. This was a fun ride, plenty of support and lots of friendly, helpful people. I was given the opportunity to speak at the awards ceremony on Saturday night. This was a great experience. Special thanks to April Brownlee and her staff for the opportunity to spread the word of the Badges 4 MS mission. This ride was dedicated to the memory of Cindy Whitney a cyclist active with the Amarillo MS Chapter that lost her life the week before the ride in a cycling accident. RIP Cindy, this one is for you!
Midland, TX: Cactus and Crude Ride
Completed July 17-18: Hot and humid both days. The Midland area received several days of rain leading upto the ride. As a result, in addition to the humidity, day two of the course was altered due to flooding in the area. All in all it was a nice course. Fast and flat with a handfull of rolling hills on day two. Very friendly people and good support. Each day was 97 with a heat index of 101, with a headwind for the final 30 miles of day two. These were not ideal riding conditions but its days like this that remind me that, no matter the conditions, each ride has a finish line. The only finish line for those with MS is a cure. That's why I ride!
